Sarita Colonia: A New Spiritual Writing

Religious experiences, although they share common elements, incorporate their context through geographies, traditions, ideologies, and stories. We propose to describe the emergence of an unconventional spirituality around Sarita Colonia, an urban-marginal character of the early twentieth century in the city of Lima, Peru. As a popular icon, it creates a spiritual prototype, and we will show, from an interdisciplinary perspective (especially philosophical and theological), how she intervenes in the urban-marginal social composition and how she proposes a new spiritual writing based on a well-defined religious experience. In this sense, our aim is to demonstrate how new values emerge from the sacred writing of Sarita Colonia that challenge the traditionally official ones.
